Release agents are generally used in the form of solutions, dispersions or emulsions. The most widely used materials are dispersions or emulsions that can be applied to the surface of the mold by hand-operated, automatic spraying equipment or by aerosol cans.

Silicone, which is the most common release agent, is available in solvent and water based forms. The silicone release agents can be used either alone or in combination with other substances having release properties.
